There's No Place Like Home

Hello all, I am finally back in the USA!!! I missed it so much but Singapore is absolutely gorgeous. I am tired as that flight was almost 20 hrs long but I just wanted to let you all know that a pic heavy post is coming soon. Balancing grad school was a daunting task, but I actually managed to get A's and B's on my assignments while working on a 14 hour time differential. I say all that to say I have been so busy and I am grateful to be back and able to enjoy some of your blogs. And before I forget, I finally finished my Butterick dress I was talking about last post so I will upload a pic once I get settled in. I am contemplating doing a review as there are so many out there...we will see...missed you all and keep up the great sewing work. Its great to be home :o)

Wow, life moves fast

Hello all, my deepest apologies to all you fantastic seamstress divas out there for not posting in a while. Life has been crazy!!! I haven't had time to sew but I will finally this weekend..YAY!!!! I am in grad school and I just got a new job :o) YAY! But the fast part is that I interviewed October 2nd, got an offer October 3rd, finish my 2 weeks on Friday and fly to Singapore for 3 WEEKS on October 27th!!! Yes divas, my 1st day on the job I am getting shipped out..how cool (crazy) is that?! However it was not expected so my life is wonderfully stressful and exciting at the moment. And yes I am jumping on the Butterick 5247 bandwagon...everyone loves this pattern and has great pics of it on pattern review. That plum jersey knit is calling my name..I wanted to be one of the first to write a review on that pattern but life got in the way (pout pout). Superwoman is exhausted but I still dream of notions and covet every new fabulous pattern that comes out. I promise you ladies I will finish that super easy and super chic dress by Sunday...thank GOD I have week off before I have to jet set. Please stop by and shout out..what awesome things are going on with you??????

I am still around...thankfully

Hello all, I know I haven't posted in a while so I have a few updates. I live in Houston...need I say more? Thankfully my family and I survived Hurricane Ike with little damage and with great health. I never knew how much I took for granted until I had to live without it for almost a week. Yes, divas, I am talking about power! Omg...a week without the pressing comb or air conditioning was rough! (Lol) Not only that we had a shortage of fresh food at the grocery. Can you imagine walking into a super Walmart and not being able to find meat, veggies or dairy? Or even fresh bread? Can you imagine waiting in line (outside) to get into a grocery store? I swear you would have thought it was the club or a sporting event with the way the lines wrapped around the building. I never could before Mr. Ike hit Houston like the other one hit poor Tina (I love that movie by the way). Lately I have been trying to cling back to normalcy and catch up on work and school ( I graduate in May by the way..yay!). Also, I just finshed my conference for work that I was the chair of the organizing committee for. We got rave reviews so although I am exhausted I am pleased and happy. In sewing news, before the power went out, I finished the baby blanket I posted about and I finished another one. I hope to post Pics of those soon. I also started Butterick 5247 (before Hurricane Ike took my power) in a nice plum colored jersey knit. Hope to finish that this weekend and post a pic of that as well. That's all for now, I hope this message finds you all well....Crafty1 is still here and loving it! :o)

Sew Cute Baby Stuff!

Hello all, the newest edition to my family arrived this week. A little baby girl...how cute!! I can't wait to have time to go see the baby (they live out of town). I have completed Mc Calls 4858. This darling bucket organizer was challenging for this little beginner as there are several (and by several I mean a lot) pieces, and it requires lots of patience as the instructions are not novice friendly (in my opinion). But now that its done I can't wait to do another. One tip I will provide in my review will be that for the medium sized organizer, a 2 gallon pail will do much better than the recommended 5 quart pail. I used snaps instead of velcro which made a nice touch. Also, I used more of the contrast fabric than was recommended because I am in LOVE with the teddy bear fabric. And to show my seamstress ambition, I plan to finish the blanket I mentioned last post by the weekend even though I am starting back to grad school tomorrow. (Wish me luck!) Sew now (lol) on with the pics.. feel free to comment or ask any questions. I hope to post my review online soon. Ta ta for now.....

PS: Notice how the bucket organizer matches the 2 sided blanket.... All the pinning is done its just waiting for the seams...stay tuned for the blanket pics....

New Butterick patterns are out!

Hello all, I know that it has been a while since my premier posts but I was too busy turning 21 again (lol). Much to my delight, Butterick has released some fresh new patterns for the season. Not only that, the McCall Pattern Company (any of the 3 - Butterick, McCalls, Vogue) is giving away a FREE pattern! :o) Even better if you live near a Hancock Fabrics, they are having a 99 cent Butterick pattern sale starting tomorrow Thursday August 14, 2008. In sewing news, I am currently working on a craft project I hope to post soon. My little cousin is having a baby .... yay! And I am loving making a blanket and M4858 for baby in the cutest pink and teddy bear fabrics.

Here are my faves from the latest release from Butterick, gotta love fall fashion.....

Wouldn't this be fabulous and very versatile set for the office? Think a nice cream colored sweater knit with camel boots or a bold and spicy color in a ponte knit with black leggings or opaque tights and black chunky heels?

Don't you just love the hot pink with the bold black contrast? This would ooze fall fashionista with the right accessories and boots. My picks would be sumptuous black leather for sure. This one is definitely on the must sew list. Top 3 reasons why: Its super cute, easy, and makes a great gift! Make this in several bold colors and have some fun! :o)

This little wardrobe set is a great refresher for the season. It has nice lines and a lot of potential. I envision this in some nice wool, flannel or suiting (stretch if you can find it). Since I have a ton of patterns already, not sure if I will purchase but it definitely has my attention...

So what are your thoughts on the new fall fashion from the Beloved Big 4? Leave me a message and let me know!

Where I got my sewing bug from....

I have always loved clothes and fashion. Ever since I was little I remember my mom making me the cutest dresses and outfits. Even now she makes some of the most gorgeous items. I rarely purchase a dress for a formal event. Its so much more fun, and budget friendly, to have a custom made gown that is unique and eye catching. My coworkers oooh and ahhh at every formal function. So I am displaying some of her work to show why I just finally had to learn how to sew. I wanna be that good one day.....

From the top:

Simplicity 9035 (1999) in a glittery knit - sewn December 2007

New Look 6517 (2005) in stretch velvet - sewn December 2007
